Charity Sewing at Expo

Volunteers work on a charity project at the 2020 Expo.

Every year, the Sewing & Stitchery Expo supports charitable organizations benefiting from hand-made or home-sewn projects.

Whether it’s making a bear for a foster child or a tote bag stuffed with baby products for an at-risk mom, we know our creative community will step up to any challenge.

Our charity sewing projects have two parts: First, a more complicated project is sent out in advance, so creators can get to work sewing, knitting, or otherwise completing projects at home. Then, we have a dedicated Charity Sewing Area in the Showplex during Expo, fully loaded with machines and helpers, so that anyone can take a break and contribute to a meaningful cause.

Our 2020 charities were Step By Step  and Sew Powerful. Our creative community certainly met the demand: You made more than 1,000 items for our charities this year! A big THANK YOU to our wonderful attendees, whether you dropped into the Charity Sewing Area or made something in advance.

You can support Step By Step all year long.

Step By Step still needs tote bags, even when Expo is over! Learn more about their ongoing tote bag needs.

2020 charity totals are listed below:

Step By Step:
75 tote bags made ahead, several stuffed with diapers and baby items
52 baby blankets made on-site
106 burp cloths sewn on-site

Sew Powerful:
791 purses made ahead
78 purses made on-site

Thank you again for all of your work, and we’ll see you next year!
